Steady flow of improvements adds customer value

Scania is introducing numerous cab and chassis developments that add to earning capacity and promote convenience. This is fully in accordance with Scania’s policy of continuous improvement in response to customer demand.

New beds with improved comfort, a new instrument cluster with greatly extended functionality and a new lighter 2-spring rear air suspension are among the latest developments.

Cabs

• New bed layout
  • 35 mm thicker mattress (155 mm) and improved springs (R-series)
  • Smaller bed extensions minimise the need to move seats (all sleeper cabs)
  • New upper bed with thicker mattress, improved springs, new upholstery (R-series Topline cabs)
• New roof shelf (P, G and R Highline)
  • Re-arranged overhead storage compartments with lids and lighting
  • 25% more storage space
  • Preparation for microwave oven optional
  • Lockable compartment on driver side
• New bedside storage modules behind doors, available on both sides
• New door-mounted roll-down sunvisor (R-series Highline, Topline)
• Passenger bench seat optional (G-series short and day cabs)
• New high-pressure headlamp cleaning system

Instrument cluster

• New instrument cluster with improved graphics on all models
• Information from digital tachograph can be displayed
• Optional bodywork integration with warning lights and sounds minimises the number of add-ons to install; switches available as accessories
• Three variants: Basic, Colour, Colour plus
• Programmable fields (Colour and Colour plus)

Launch control helps starting and reduces clutch wear

Scania has introduced a new standard function that improves performance when pulling away from a standstill, in particular in conditions of high driving resistance, e.g. starting uphill or heavily laden. The desired engine revs are maintained without the need to depress the accelerator further during clutch slip-in. Clutch wear will be reduced since the slip-in time is shorter in most cases. Greater precision in controlling engine revs with the accelerator when the gearbox is in neutral or when declutching.

Chassis

  • Saves up to 120 kg compared to earlier 2-spring design
  • Gradually being introduced on tractors and rigids
  • 4-spring option remains for extra weight saving, added comfort and convenient load handling
• EBS in combination with drum brakes
  • Available on 4×2 with air suspension
  • Mainly for construction applications
  • Better brake response
  • Better functionality for interaction with other systems, e.g. retarder, brake blending, ESP

Gearboxes

• Manual gearboxes – power take-off options
  • New side-mounted gearbox PTO
  • New rear-mounted dual-flange and high-speed PTOs
• Automatic gearboxes
  • Automatic neutral when coming to a standstill, e.g. at traffic lights
  • Hill-hold
  • Speed limiter (30 km/h) and R (reverse) disabled with packer step occupied (refuse collection trucks)
