Scania truck

Selected for the calendar

Scania owners from all over the world have submitted thousands of photos to the Favoritescania.com website. Among the contributors was German superstructure company Moog, and now one of the company’s deliveries will be part of the 2009 Scania calendar.

Moog’s contribution. When the superstructure company Moog delivered two advanced Scania trucks to Austria’s Road Administration, the company took photos for Favoritescania.com.

When Christine Moog, sales manager at Moog GmbH, received her 2008 Scania calendar and an invitation to join the competition for inclusion in the 2009 calendar, she began thinking about one of the company’s more spectacular pending orders.

Austria’s Road Administration had ordered superstructures from her company to be installed on two Scania trucks to enable inspection of the many bridges in that mountainous country. During the photo session when her company delivered the equipment, Moog made sure to take a photo for Favoritescania.com.

“I sent in my photo in March,” she says. “After that, things moved quickly. A couple of weeks later, I heard from Dan Boman of the Scania Image Desk. He asked if we wanted to be represented in the 2009 calendar.”

Inclusion in the calendar will be fun, she says. “We’re a small company and didn’t expect to be selected. It will be good advertising for us, even though our customers are few and large − often public authorities.

“It’s also good to show that we work with Scania, a large and well-known company. Usually it’s our customers that choose what truck will be delivered with our equipment, and many of them choose Scania.”

Moog is one of numerous companies and Scania owners from all around the world that have uploaded photos to Favoritescania.com. During the first half of 2008, more than 3,000 photos were transmitted to the site, which has more than 50,000 visitors each month. Many Net surfers visit the site to look at the photos, vote for the best and download screensavers. Because of this keen interest, the number of language versions has been expanded to 15.

“The site has been a huge success,” says Boman. “Scania owners compete for the title of Scania of the Day, and they encourage each other to participate.”

Photos have been submitted from all corners of the world. They show many different types of trucks and buses, although most photos are of trucks in Europe.

“The selection reflects Scania’s sales rather well,” says Boman. “Usually hauliers and drivers send in the photos. But sometimes people who simply like trucks submit photos as well.”

Most people upload photos via the website, but they can also do this via mobile phone, using MMS. The photos on the site are small, so the quality is satisfactory even when their resolution is not so high.

“When have selected vehicles for the calendar, we send out professional photographers to take the calendar photos,” Boman says. Although only 365 photos a year are published and only 12 images make it into the calendar, all photos are saved. “It’s a fantastic photo archive,” says Boman.
