Marek Szerenos, Young European Truck Driver 2007: What’s your view on the Scania Driver Competitions?
- The competition is a great idea. It improves the drivers’ skills as well as improving road safety.
As a winner, could you give some advice to this year’s contestants?
- My advice to competitors is to remain very calm during the competition. Be calm and keep your cool. That will certainly help to achieve success.
What were the main challenges?
- The greatest challenges are the judges who are observing. You can’t afford to make a mistake. How you place your hands on the steering wheel, attention to the road driving, slowing down, speeding up.
Your driving has to be faultless.

Why should anyone enter the competition?
- Young drivers should enter the competition to improve their skills. They will become better, safer and more responsible drivers.
How has the competition affected you as a truck driver?
- I’m a more aware driver now. As a driver, I do have an influence on the safety on the road. I can also influence the amount of pollution in my environment.
