Young European Truck Driver: Hungary for a win

The Hungarian final of the Young European Truck Driver 2010 was a close run. Tibor Szeness’s focus on the different disciplines made the difference, and he now moves on to the European final in Södertälje on 8-9 October.

More than 700 Scania customers cheered on twelve finalists at the Hungarian national competition of YETD 2010, which was held at the Scania dealer workshop in Budapest.

The competitors fought it out for two days with theory and check before driving tests, fuel-efficient driving and manoeuvring the vehicle within limited space. Tibor Szeness took his last chance to win the YETD as he celebrates his 35th birthday in June.
“I didn’t prepare myself in advance,” Szeness says. “I did the application theory test by heart, but during the competition I was really focussing on the disciplines.”

Szeness’s goal for the European final in October is clear:
“I will start the preparation soon,” he says. “My plan is to win the new R-series truck.”

Szeness wasn’t the only winner present; the modified Scania P 420 truck that won the 2010 Africa Eco Race was on exhibit. The truck drove 6,000 kilometres from Portugal to Senegal with only a leaf spring bolt getting damaged.
In addition to the thrilling driver competition, spectators were invited to take a closer look at the current Scania range during the dealer’s open day filled with activities for customers and their families.
