They all had to pass a written test on traffic rules, first aid and transport and road safety, followed by a driving test to demonstrate fuel-efficient and defensive driving. The judge in the second part of the test was Scania Driver Support, a system that continually analyses data from sensors in the vehicle. The system coaches the driver with real-time advice and then makes a cumulative assessment of driving style, all to enhance driver performance.

The closing part of the competition was the manoeuvring test, which, according to the drivers, wasn’t easy. The ones who mastered their nerves and displayed superior driving eked out a win, taking their place among the semi-finalists.
